Russian Official Delegation went from Khabarovsk to Niigata to Take Part in Meeting of Mayors from Siberia and Russian Far East with Mayors from Western Coast of Japan
The delegation included the mayors from Bratsk, Irkutsk, Magadan, Birobidzhan, Nakhodka, Vladivostok, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and deputy mayors from Yakutsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The head of the delegation was Khabarovsk Mayor Alexander Sokolov who is the president of the Association to Develop Friendly Relationship among Mayors from Siberia and Russian Far East and Japanese Municipalities. The head of the delegation of Japanese mayors is going to be the Mayor of Niigata Sinoda Akira who is the President of the Association of Mayors from Western Coast of Japan.
The meetings began 47 years ago. Russian and Japanese mayors met for the first time in Khabarovsk in 1970 to discuss the prospects of future cooperation. The meetings have been taken place every two years since then. The event took place in Vladivostok in 2015. The mayors had met in a Japanese city of Maidzuru two years before. A lot of Russian cities that take part in the meeting have sister-cities in Japan.
The Meeting takes place in August from 23rd to 25th. The mayors from Siberia and Russian Far East are going to discuss lots of issues of join cooperation with the mayors from Western Coast of Japan. The main two topics of the meeting are
the economic cooperation between Russia and Japan and tourists exchange programs. There is going to be co-organized Russian-Japanese Business Forum with the Meeting. It’s going to be visited by businessmen from Khabarovsk and other cities. Besides the official events the members of the delegation are going to visit Biogas Generation Complex, Smart Agriculture Plant and the Tsubame Industrial History Museum. A Joint Communiqué is going to be signed after the Meeting.
