Representatives of Municipalities from Four Japanese Cities Visited Khabarovsk
The head of International Relations Department Tatyana Ivanova has had a meeting with a delegation from Japan in Khabarovsk City Administration. The representatives from municipalities of four Japanese cities of Niigata, Akita, Joetsu, Maizuru were the members of the delegation. These cities are the members of Association of Mayors from Western Coast of Japan. According to the head of the delegation, the head of International Relations Department in Municipality of Niigata, the goal of the trip to Khabarovsk and then to Vladivostok was to study Russian Far Eastern cities better, frame plans future cooperation and the development of tourism.
Tatiana Ivanova provided the guests with the information about Khabarovsk, its economic and cultural ties with Japan, interesting for potential investors projects. The guests from Japan having arrived in Khabarovsk for the first time liked our city a lot and mentioned its beauty, interesting architecture and green spaces. Mr. Suzuki mentioned that one of the most important spheres of cooperation between our cities is tourism. 3500 Japanese visited Khabarovsk in 2015. Two thirds of them were tourists. It’s important to make travelling to Khabarovsk interesting for the Japanese and vice versa to make travelling to Japan interesting for our citizens.
The parties also discussed a future meeting of Mayors from Siberia and Russian Far East and Japanese Municipalities and Association of Mayors from Western Coast of Japan. The 26th meeting will take place in Khabarovsk sister-city of Niigata in August 2017. The first negotiations were half a century ago in 1970 when Russian and Japanese mayors gathered in Khabarovsk to discuss future cooperation issues. The meetings have taken place every two years in Russia and Japan in turn since then. The guests visited Vladivostok in 2015and they had gathered in Japanese city of Maizuru three years before that. There are 18 cities in Association to Develop Friendly Relationship among Mayors from Siberia and Russian Far East and Japanese Municipalities. The chairman of the Association is the mayor of Khabarovsk Alexander Sokolov. There are also 18 cities in Association of Mayors from Western Coast of Japan. The members of the Japanese delegation have visited Japanese Centre in Khabarovsk, the company that is a resident of Industrial Park Avangard, the Consulate General of Japan in Khabarovsk and a travel company today.
